Primitive Greens | The Future of Farming
As a result of technological innovation sustainable agriculture is now able to provide food security to island nations by significantly reducing the reliance on imported produce, reducing food cost, lowering the cost of living as well as and increasing food quality, health and nutrition for all.
Launched in Grand Cayman, Primitive Greens is the islands first fully sustainable commercial farming operation. The existing operation currently sells to the major supermarkets locally and is in the process of scaling its operations to a new HQ facility which will then provide the majority of the islands vegetable produce grown locally. This expansion is currently pending regulatory approval.
The Primitive Greens HQ facility will be powered entirely by a solar energy microgrid making the company a fully sustainable operation which has a net-positive carbon footprint and net-exporter of clean energy. Primitive Greens intends to expand across the Caribbean region.
Sustainable Resiliency
A core part of Primitive Greens operations is the renewable energy microgrid systems we develop which provide 100% of the power needed to operate our farming facilities with non-reliance on grid energy (which is more susceptible to damage from storms and catastrophic events) in addition to being more costly and less sustainable.
Our primary renewable energy development method is to build megawatt scale solar arrays coupled to a battery microgrid, placed in ex-quarry lakes that have been exhausted. This is to efficiently conserve on usable land associated with our farms. In this manner we typically produce 100 acres of equivalent land based agricultural production using 1 acre of land.
Where quarry or natural lakes are not available, Primitive focuses on Agrivoltaic opportunities, mixing land based solar energy systems with traditional outdoor agricultural growing.
